Artist Statements
Orest Semchishen

His grandparents came with other Ukrainian immigrants to the vicinity of Mundare, 80 kilometres east of Edmonton in the late 1890s. Orest Semchishen was born there in 1932. From that place of birth, his photographic documentation has radiated to encompass all of Canada. His cultural heritage and the experience of growing up in rural Alberta has remained his focus of attention.
