The
Arctic Institute of North America (AINA) at the University of Calgary
encompasses a broad range of multidisciplinary resources that combine
to play a unique role within the spheres of public, private and
community activity in Northern regions around the world.
The
purposes of the AINA are to assist and cooperate in the orderly
development of the North through the sponsoring of research and
the acquisition and dissemination of information. The Institute,
founded and incorporated by an Act of Parliament in 1945, is a non-profit,
tax-exempt research and education organization. It has been an institute
of the University of Calgary since 1979 and is governed by a Board
of Directors.
Financial
support for the programs of the AINA are provided by the Government
of Canada, The Government of Alberta, the University of Calgary,
its members, subscribers, corporate associates and sponsors.
