The
Triangle Gallery of Visual Arts is engaged in the advancement of
knowledge and understanding of contemporary visual art through a
balanced annual program of visual art exhibitions to the public
of Calgary. The program is developed by the CCAS Curatorial Committee,
an advisory group consisting of art historians, professional artists,
critics, art educators and community representatives who work with
the Gallery Director to develop professional exhibitions that cover
the broad range of the Gallery mandate.
The
Triangle Gallery priorities in programming are as follows:
- diversity
- traditional and contemporary work, comprising retrospectives,
group, survey exhibitions that are thematic or conceptually based
and embracing two and three dimensional studio disciplines as
well as architecture, the applied arts, fine craft, multimedia,
photography and electronic art
-
partnerships and alliances - drawing upon the collections
and resources of other organizations such as the University of
Lethbridge, Nickle Arts Museum, Glenbow Museum and the Arctic
Institute of Canada; working with artists collectives such as
the Alberta Society of Artists, Royal Canadian Academy and The
Canadian Bookbinders and Book Art Guild
- artist
recognition - local, national and international contemporary
artists are brought to the viewing public of Calgary
- documentation
- the interpretation, recording and archiving of gallery exhibitions
and activities, and the contribution of visual artists to society
-
interpretation - critical research and writing is an element
of exhibition development; exhibition notices and didactic panels
are produced with a curatorial essay, an interactive booklet for
school children is produced when appropriate
- outreach
- other cultural events and arts festivals are identified as important
for the Triangle Gallery to be affiliated with and exhibitions
are planned to coincide and contribute a visual arts component;
